Jaipur is considered the capital of the state of Rajasthan in Western India and is also the largest city of this state. In 1720, Jaipur was founded by Rajput Jai Singh II and it was one of the earliest planned cities in modern India. Located 268km from the capital New Delhi, Jaipur is a place that attracts many Indian tourists and is part of the western tourist "circuit" of the Golden Triangle with two major cities, Agra and Delhi.
The city of Jaipur is surrounded by solid, soaring walls and a series of shops built of pink marble. This place is famous for many cultural heritages, unique architectural works such as fortresses, palaces and many buildings built in royal style. People here are always proud of the ancient cultural heritage with ancient architecture that the city of Jaipur has.
How to get there
- By flight: Air travel is the most convenient way to reach the pink city. The Sanganer airport is well connected to the major cities of India as well as the globe through a number of airlines operating on a regular basis. Buses, taxis and cabs are easily available from the airport to reach the main city.
- By road: The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) runs luxury and deluxe buses between Jaipur and other cities within the state of Rajasthan. There is a regular service from cities like New Delhi, Kota, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Vadodara, and Ajmer at reasonable fares.
- By train: The Indian Railways offers a number of express trains to reach Jaipur from other parts of India.Trains like the Shatabdi Express connects Jaipur to almost all major cities of India. An additional attraction is "The Palace on Wheels" which offers a royal ride to Jaipur. A train journey through the desert is an enthralling experience in itself.
Ways to get around the city
Autos are the most viable mode of transport except for when it gets too hot. Cabs also are very easily available. The city bus, a new addition for the tourists is a hop-on-hop-off service which is quite efficient. Though normal bus service is also available, we wouldn't recommend it for the tourists. Also, the Jaipur metro has made commuting efficient than ever.
The three seasons of Jaipur are: a warm dry winter, an unbearably hot spring/summer and a brief but intense monsoon season. Unsurprisingly the best season to visit Jaipur is during the winter months, from early November through to February and this is the height of the tourist season.
