ANA to begin restoring Ta Prohm southern gate

The Apsara National Authority (ANA), in collaboration with The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) started a project to renovate the southern gate of Ta Prohm temple, which collapsed a few years ago. The work will take three months from mid-December 2023 to February 2024.

The archaeologist of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology Neth Simon has stated that the main goal of this dig is to locate and identify the stones of the abandoned edifice. Second, investigate the gate's foundation condition and learn about historic construction procedures.

Previously on April 12 - Cambodia began restoring the east gate of Ta Prohm temple in the famous Angkor Archaeological Park in northwestern Siem Reap province.

Ta Prohm Temple, an almost completely ruined temple, is famous and attractive to tourists because of the roots of giant trees clinging to the rock like giant pythons. Ta Prohm is located east of Angkor Thom and was built by King Jayavarman VII in 1186 as a monastery and Mahayana Buddhist school; was originally called Rajavihara (Royal Temple). Ta Prohm was inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1992.

Chitranjan Kumar, the restoration project manager at Ta Prohm, said that the project to restore Ta Prohm Temple is 60% complete and is scheduled to finish next year.

Hopefully, the temple will be more sturdy the following year so that visitors can come and take in all of its wonder and beauty.
