Siem Reap Angkor International Airport to Open on October 16, 2023

The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) of Cambodia has announced that the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) was officially open for operations on October 16, 2023. SAI is a state-of-the-art airport that is designed to handle up to 7 million passengers per year, with the capacity to expand to 12 million passengers by 2040. The airport also has the capacity to handle 10,000 tonnes of air cargo per year, with the potential to expand to 26,000 tonnes by 2040.

The opening of SAI is a major development for Cambodia's tourism industry, as it will make it easier for visitors to travel to the country's world-famous Angkor Wat temple complex. Cambodia is already seeing a strong rebound in tourism this year, with the number of international air arrivals increasing by 180% in the first eight months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.

SAI is located in Kriel Pong Village of Por Pel Commune and Provall Village of Ta Yek Commune in Sotr Nikum District, Siem Reap Province, and will replace the current Siem Reap International Airport (REP) as the city's main airport. The airport has received the official code from the International Air Transport Association (IATA Code) as SAI and from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO Code) as VDSA.

All commercial flights of air passengers and cargo that are being operated at the current Siem Reap International Airport (REP) will be transferred entirely and one time only to Siem Reap Angkor International Airport from 00:00 AM (Cambodian Time) on 16th October 2023.

The opening of SAI is a major milestone in Cambodia's development, and it is sure to boost the country's tourism industry and economy for many years to come.
