
Vietnam to reopen for Worldwide tourists
The national border has been agreed to reopen by the government this week. Starting from March 15, inbound tourists are allowed to enter Vietnam under new normal conditions.
Mr.Vu Duc Dam, Deputy PM, has ordered the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to prepare and announce a detailed plan for reopening. The ministry also working with the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs to make a proposal on visa issuance policy.
Since early March 2020, the Vietnamese border had been closed and visa granting was halted as part of the national strategy to again pandemic. Now after 2 years, Vietnam reopen for tourists.
At a government meeting, last Tuesday, ministries which include the defense, public security, health, foreign affairs, and transport agreed that all travel restrictions would be removed since Vietnam is going to reopen air, land, and sea border from March 15.
The ministries proposed to the government to resume the policy of unilateral visa waiver for 13 countries and bilateral visa waiver for 88 countries as before the pandemic.
Before the pandemic, Vietnam unilaterally exempted visas for 13 countries Russia, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, the U.K., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Belarus for a maximum of 15 days.
According to the proposal, tour packages with designated travel agencies are not required anymore for all foreign tourists arriving in Vietnam after March 15. This requirement used to be part of the vaccine passport trial program launched in November last year.
Fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid certificates are required for all tourists from and above 12 years old in order to enter Vietnam.
Travelers would self-isolate in their accommodation, take the rapid anti-gen test within 24 hours after arrival, and would continue monitoring their health for 14 days as per health ministry protocol. If tourists show Covid symptoms, they would have to take rapid testing at the airport when they land.
A $30 per person medical insurance covers at least $10,000 for Covid treatment is must-have for international visitors to enter Vietnam.
Vietnam started allowing foreign tourists under a vaccine passport program with strict restrictions last November. So far, nearly 9,000 foreign arrivals have been welcomed under the program, half of them Vietnamese overseas coming to see their relatives.

Under the program, Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang, Quang Nam, Quang Ninh, and Binh Dinh provinces, along with Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang City are the only localities foreign tourists can visit.
